Background about Jeff Danziger

Jeff Danziger was born in New York City November 14, 1943. He attended school in the city and Bedford, NY, and college at the University of Denver. Following graduation he moved to Vermont and bought a farm. In 1967, he was drafted and served in Vietnam in 1969 as a linguist and intelligence officer. He received an honorable discharge in 1971, with a Bronze Star and the Air Medal. He returned to Vermont, working as a writer and teacher. He began drawing for the Montpelier Times Argus and the Rutland Herald in 1975. In 1980 he begas as a part-time cartoonist for the New York Daily News and in 1986 moved to the Christian Science Monitor in Boston where he was staff cartoonist until 1996. He has contribted to the Rutland Herald continuously since 1975.
His cartoons are syndicated by the Washington Post Writers Group.

He has studied drawing in New York and Boston, and at the Staedel Institute in Frankfurt, Germany. He has traveled widely in Europe, Asia and the Far East, as well as most of the Soviet Union. He has published ten books of cartoons, and one novel about the Vietnam War. His work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, The New Yorker, the International Herald Tribune, Le Monde, Izvestia and the Moscow Times among others, and in American newspapers from the Boston Globe to the Los Angeles Time, and on the Washington Post editorial page on September 12, 2001.

He has been twice short-listed for the Pulitzer Prize and was awarded an Overseas Press Club Prize in 1998. He won the Herblock Prize in 2006, and the Thomas Nast Award in 2008.
